I'm just gonna post the same as I posted on wowdetox..

I have loved, love and will always love World of Warcraft.

None of us, currently playing or not, can deny the fact that the whole idea and implementation of this game are truly ingenious.
Yet, there are countless reasons to not be a part of this second life, which can easily become your one and only life. The reasons written on the 1977 pages below are only small pieces of the yet to be written book called:"Why should I quit?"

Yes indeed, I have been part of the huge WoW-Family. For over 2 years I could not bare the thought about living a live without The game. It was simply too much fun and way too important to me, to just put it aside like that. Of course I knew I was an addict and that it was dominating my life in a very, very bad way. But I liked being part of the Azeroth population, so why should I abandon something that was making me happy?

School and several other obligations made me quit the game several times, but somehow new updates or expansions, containing all of these new awesome features, always manages to seduce me into start playing again. And of course, since the seducing progress often took a while, I always had some catching up to do. For me that meant endless days and nights of grinding on a path where the masses had already gone.

It was an hopeless situation, I simply could not get rid of an addiction that was slowly eating me alive. None of the countless reasons to stop, not even combined, were enough to convince me. And worst of all; I did not care one bit. I can’t change, and I don’t want to change.

Luckily for me, me changing, was not a requirement for having the ability to quit:

‘November 13, 2008 - Blizzard releases the second expansion to World of Warcraft. The Wrath of the Lich King.’

Further explanation needed?

Oh well, for the ones that did not keep up I might as well explain why the last expansion made me quit this increasingly recognized addiction.

Old-fashioned isn’t one of my traits, since I’m only 17 years old. But still I stand by my opinion that, especially the last expansion ruined all of the original charm that the game used to have. Things like satisfying progress, solidarity and fun made place for extreme grinding, de-socialization and frustration.

I am not doubting about the first sentence I wrote in this testimonial. But that was about the original version of World of Warcraft. Not about the failing current version of the game which is being held together by wearing out on the glory it once had.

Recent development of World of Wacraft was my reason to quit. What´s yours?

Was doing a search for information on what to do to prepare for raids because for some dumb reason or another I'm certain there are raiders in my guild that think preparation is just something the officers are demanding, but no one else does it and we're stupid.

In the meantime, I found your site, to which I say...

Ha! I felt the same way. Everything is a grind. I thought about this a lot and I decided that its just Blizzard's way of trying to get everybody to stay subscribed for months upon months upon years! You could play this game forever, killing dog after dog after deer after bear after mob, mob, mob; and still be level 20, two months later. While people like Joana, using his guide, are finishing the whole game in one week of play time. Your 10 reasons are right on... ok, well... I gotta go mine ore for my guild in preparation for our raid. It should only take me 6 or 7 hours.

Story in games these day's truly suck, with a few exeptions.
I for one don't blame the industry that much, mainly because the entire industry started with geeks in the first place, who had to come up with the story themselves.

Dispite the help of professional writers, what do geeks prefer to play?
Exactly!
Last years "hit", with a 2% increase in innovation.
If it's got 3% innovation we're happy and make it game of the year.
But if it's got 1% innovation, or worse, too much, then what?!

It makes the game feel odd.. like it's not for us anymore.. and it becomes outcasted and branded as "mainstream"

Well guess what?
With the rising interest in casual games this is about to change.
At the moment we can still compete with them,
mainly because we have better graphics/A.I, not story.
But nowaday's the Indy scene is taking the world bit by bit using technology nearly as good as ours, dammit!
And the mainstream is taking the bite!
Just look at Audio Surf!
When people play this, they want more of this..
Our marketing Dept. is going to hear about this, and wants a slice of this HUGE cake as well.. Crap!
Does that mean trouble?
Yep! Better brace you're selves today.

Really, there's nothing you can do about it ;)
Unless the business model suddenly changes, which I doubt.
But don't take my word for it!
Just sit and wait for it to happen.
It won't be long before we die out.. sadly enough

Because you can't rise the bar on graphics for ever.
Then we look for the next big thing.. think think..
Aha!, we rise the bar on A.I.
Suddenly this results in revolutionary new methods of gameplay,
And because the geeks have invented it, they tend to like it, and call it geeky once again.

In a way, we're just afraid of our own future shadow,
which is stupid really.
We'd rather take it slow.

Regards

The only thing worse than the 12-15 year olds who spend +8 hours a day in video games (usually spamming me racial, sexist, or homophobic slurs) are . . .

. . . the 25-35+ year olds in my guild who completely ignore their crying and whining children (of various ages from babies to teenagers), which I can hear over ventrilo during raids.

Just sad sometimes.

I totally agree that gaming can be addictive and anti social.
Parents should monitor the amount of time spent on the console.

It is quite understandable as the game graphics can be so compelling, as this "God of War" proves.
